Maritime University of Gdynia and Transition Technologies-Software Extend Cooperation with a Focus on ShipDocs

Academia and Business Driving Maritime Innovation

Collaboration between universities and technology companies is one of the key drivers of innovation. A strong example of this is the partnership between the Maritime University of Gdynia (UMG) and Transition Technologies-Software (TTSW). From the very beginning, the cooperation has focused on applying academic knowledge in real business environments, with a particular emphasis on digital transformation in the maritime industry.

From Memorandum of Understanding to ShipDocs Implementation

The cooperation was formalized in May 2023 with the signing of a memorandum of understanding. The partnership is coordinated by the Technology Transfer Center of UMG and has covered a range of research and implementation initiatives. One of the key areas has been the development of ShipDocs, an innovative solution designed to support the digitalization of port and customs documentation in shipping. In February 2024, the ShipDocs system was installed on the training vessel Horyzont II.

Extended Partnership and the Future of ShipDocs

Recently, the Maritime University of Gdynia and Transition Technologies-Software signed an annex to their agreement, officially extending their cooperation. This extension demonstrates that both sides are satisfied with the results so far and see strong potential for further development.

With the renewed partnership, ShipDocs will continue to be tested in real-world operations, and the feedback gathered will allow the system to evolve even further. Planned improvements include new functionalities and deeper integration with port and customs clearance processes, ensuring the tool continues to meet the needs of the maritime sector.

Why This Cooperation Matters

  • The Maritime University of Gdynia gains opportunities to put research outcomes into practice and play an active role in the digitalization of the maritime industry.
  • The maritime sector benefits from ShipDocs, a modern tool that simplifies and accelerates port and customs documentation management.

Conclusion

The partnership between UMG and TTSW is a proven example of how academia and business can work together effectively. The signed annex not only extends their cooperation. Also paves the way for further enhancement of ShipDocs and the development of new initiatives supporting maritime digitalization and innovation.
